nasnumbers asked: i like how you incorporate geometric shapes into your art so well. its a bit of a weak point in my own work
Thank you! I definitely think strong use of shape and exaggeration of shape are two of my stronger points. I’ve been meaning to do more actual finished illustrations, and now that PAX is done I can focus more on my personal work beyond what I do for my job.
If it’s something you want to focus more on or even just experiment with, just keep practicing! Do studies of other peoples work; doing this will help you figure out someone else’s thought-process while you interpret it through your own. Just remember that everyone has their own natural affinities and sense of style; do the art you want to make, not the art you THINK you should be making. Embrace your talents! This is something I struggled with a lot and is something I feel should be said more.

Still alive after PAX! Rockin’ my Indie Megabooth T-Shirt, Exhibitors bage, and my favorite PAX swag, the claptrap tote bag (so clever).
Ok, so now that I’ve actually gotten some sleep and can think, my personal highlights of PAX this year:
- Drinks and food with Gaben’s right hand man at Valve
- Cocktails and hanging about with Alienware (who are being such cool guys to us and are hooking me up)
- Getting to chat and shake hands with Tim Schafer, who then proceeded to talk with me about my game and about eating frozen butts.
- Doing an impromptu interview with Don and his team, the people who did Jazzpunk and LoD’s live action trailers.
- Meeting game devs and press on the PAX floor while demoing who know who I am and love my work!
- So many parties filled with free drinks B)
- Also meeting some of you jabronies, some old friends and some new ones. (:
After 4 days of exhibiting and partying madness, I no longer have a voice, my ankles are fucked up, and I feel like shit. But it was so worth it. Life is good, and I look forward to the show next year!

So after staying up forever last night to update my websites / portfolio in time for PAX, I realized a few things. 1) Christ, I do NOT make as much finished art as I should 2) I need to start making actual illustrations for me and not just work for my job 3) My art files are not organized at all 4) I use lots of awesome colors. At least one of those things was positive!
Here’s a snippet of the portfolio I now have updated at www.behance.net/carriewitt. It’s still got some older but cool stuff that’s never been posted on a tumblr or anything (:

Aghh almost PAX time! Almost ready! Super excited and nervous!! Still so much to do D:
If you’re at PAX this weekend, come find me to say hello and play the demo of Dyscourse! We’ve got a bunch of people helping on the floor this year (thank god) so I won’t always be at the booth, but say hello anyway if you see me c: I’ll be wearing the Dyscourse T-Shirt and exhibitor badge. And I’m also like 6ft tall I’m pretty hard to miss.

I like how you can tell I kinda spent time on the face and not much else. A mesh between what I’ve been doing for work and the painterly style of Spelunky, just to kind of relax. I can’t spent more than 1-2 hours on stuff after work anymore though or I get too stressed out.
It’s Cadence from Necrodancer, check that shit out, it’s good. Such clever design and good music. They’ll be at PAX too!

Finally allowed to announce that Dyscourse will be part of the Indie MEGABOOTH at PAX East this year! ( we were allowed to say we’re at PAX, but not where, but honestly you could have guessed… )
Been super busy getting ready for this. If you’ll be around come say hey, play the alpha demo, and grab some of the swag I made c:
There’s going to be so many awesome games by lots of awesome people. Other Boston Indie Game Collective buddies of mine will be showing there as well; Erik with Robot Roller-Derby Disco Dodgeball, Dejobaan with Drunken Robot Pornography, and Dejobaan/Popcannibal with Elegy for a Dead World.
It’s very cool to be showing at a convention with so many other rad games and people I look up to, I’m so nervous!

Let's fight this one Co-Op: my thoughts on online harassment and the responsibilities we have to each other
Most of us participate in development streams here at Proletariat. We do them at the same time every week. We’re working on the same project, using the same stream service, webcam, everything. All things are equal. And we all get trolls. It’s the internet. It’s Twitch. “That’s just how it is,…
A very important and well thought out post from my good friend and fellow game artist Lauren from Proletariat. I don’t reblog things too often, but this is a serious topic that is often overlooked and it puts into the words many feelings and uneasiness that I also have as a lady in the game development world. Definitely worth a read.
